Microscopic diamond found in Montana
Yet more of the planet being torn up and the environment destroyed in order to feed man's greed for something of no real value.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/10/19/diamond.discovery.ap/index.html

HELENA, Montana (AP) -- The bright green rocks jutting through the prairie soil were hard to miss, but Tom Charlton still couldn't believe his eyes.

It was kimberlite, the molten rock in which diamonds are found, and preliminary tests had yielded a microscopic diamond. If more are found at the 80-acre site known as the Homestead property, the land could become the state's first-ever commercial diamond operation and the only working diamond mine in the United States, geologists said.

1. it is rather stupid and sad
so many lust after something that really does nothing for them but make them more likely to get robbed.

2. Diamonds have VERY real value on industrial grinding tools
These aren't jewelry diamonds he's talking about. These are industrial diamonds. Or did you think steel was enough?

5. Point
but taht is hardly what is driving these people to exploit this location. Consider, please, that you get more than enough industrial grade diamonds out of the current mines.

3. Isn't there a gold mine there in Homestead already?
If so, how did generations of geologists not notice this stuff?

4. Ah-oh, I knew there was trouble when we heard rumors DeBeers sent
some people to look around a couple years ago.

Buy CZs and piss off racist extraction companies!
