Industrial building to go off grid

By Business Report Staff

June 25, 2008 --

LONGMONT - Charlie Noble, owner of Longmont-based Noble Engineering Corp., has purchased a 26,000-square-foot building at 1820 Industrial Circle in Longmont and plans to make it a hub for food-manufacturing companies while taking it off the power grid with renewable energy.

Noble, a chemical engineer, purchased the building "a couple of weeks ago" and is in the process of renting space. He would not disclose the amount he paid for the building.

...

Noble plans to use solar and wind energy to power the site, but he said that is "nine months out." He said he has contacted other municipalities in regard to building off-the-grid industrial sites, and the Longmont location will serve as a prototype.

"We have talked to three different municipalities and economic development departments, and they are all very interested," Noble said. "If the concept works with this building we will try to partner up with those municipalities for future plans."

2. I sure hope he takes advantage of the constant winds on the Front Range
for some of that power, lol. The thing I hated most about CO was the frickin' wind. Though WY is much worse.

3. That's funny. I live in Wyo,
and I can't wait to get down to Colorado because of the lack of wind! All you have to do is cross the border and the weather is nicer! On the few non-windy days of the year (you can probably count them on one hand!) my daughter and I like to say, "It's a Colorado day."
