Top-Ten Greenest & Worst US States For Carbon Emissions
Graphic Of The Day: Top-Ten Per Capita (Greenest) US States For Carbon Emissions

This is an update of the post from 2007 titled: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall, Who Are The Greenest (States) Of All. That earlier post graphic was based on a multi-parameter index ranking. This new one is simpler:- the graphic you see here shows state ranking based on per capita emissions. The greener the bar, the better they are.

Which ten states are at the bottom of the heap, so to speak, in terms of per capita carbon emissions?

Here they are. The states whose Congressional delegations will fight climate action tooth and nail. The states where coal lobbyists will spend a lot on TV and radio advocacy campaigns.

1. Hmmm. 10 blue states, 10 red states. Am I seeing a pattern here?
And why in the world would TEXAS be number one on the worst list? Anyone? Anyone?

I do wish Colorado would've been in the top 10 best, though. :(

3. Where was Colorado on the list?
I didn't go to the link in the article cause my state was represented.

That was from 2007. Uh-oh, if they're slipped to #24 in one year. :(

2. "the bigger the bar, the greener they are"
that graphic is completely misleading - if it's labelled "per capita carbon output", the states that are worst should be showing the most carbon.

c'mon people, graphics 101. i nearly had a heart attack thinking wyoming was kicking washington states' ass.

6. Some of those "green" states either have hydro or import much of their electricity.
Granted their air is much cleaner, but it's not a fair comparison if other states are being saddled with their emissions.

In my opinion, per capita energy use would be a more fair comparison of who's "greener". When all is said and done, it does come down to energy use.
