"Wolf Blitzer interviewed T. Boone Pickens about his sudden push for alternative energy today on The Situation Room. The oilman-turned-renewables-pitchman has been the subject of much buzz in the greeen blogosphere, even earning several mentions and high praise from Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope.

Today on TV, though, Pickens sounded a lot more like the oilman, when Blitzer asked him about Senator John McCain's support for offshore drilling. Pickens said he was more aggressive than McCain: "McCain says, OK, off the east and west coasts, I say, east, west coasts and ANWR, get it all."

This comes from the guy who says we can't drill our way out of this problem."

-He may be banging the drum on wind, but folks, that's just part of his game. Remember, he's still very much the oil man. Don't be fooled.

4. Same here. And it was Kerry who said in nearly every speech in 2003-4 that US can't drill its

way out of the problem, we had to INVENT our way out, in his push to fully fund alternative and renewable energy sources. The media is acting as if Pickens' is a prophet, when he is exploiting Kerry's words for his own PROFIT.

Pickens is as low as they come. He NEEDED Bush to stay in office so guys like him could wrangle their way into the profits to be made from alternatives.

And some of the DUMB wing of the Democratic party leadership are falling for Pickens' act. What will they say when he endorses McCain in the fall?

5. Disaster Capitalism.
He helped create the disaster so that he could profit from the solution.

6. He's doing more for renewables than for oil drilling.
He didn't suddenly develop an aversion to oil, but he has decided to bring to the forefront the issues of wealth transfer and energy security AND to suggest we "cannot drill our way out of the crisis" but instead need a long term solution that is based on renewables.

The fact that he doesn't object to continued drilling until it is all gone doesn't change the large net positive effect his declaration of the problem and the ultimate solution has had.

8. i think his position
is to decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
that would include wind and solar power, but also include more drilling for domestic oil.

9. His point has never been about global warming. It is about energy independence.

The problem is that the two need to be treated together, and therefore, solutions like Pickens's are not helping anybody but himself: natural gas and new drilling that will only be producing in 2020 at best are not part of the solution. They are part of the problem.

But dont worry, some people here have never seen a Republican they do not like.

11. He never claimed any different....
if you cared or even tried to watch his past interviews or his website you would see that he has always favored domestic drilling. He still says there is not enough here for a long term solution. But by all means let your partizan knee jerk emotions get the best of you. Look Boone is not a saint, but he gets it. Fossil fuels are not a long term solution. Let's face the reality here folks...

We are not going to get to a green country without guys like Pickens, putting up agressive action oriented investments. Few people in the country have that much capital and are willing to put it down on the line. Let's use this guy and get to 20% wind power in 12 years.

13. Nah, it's much easier to toss out the message
from a messenger we don't like. We should just hang every single person involved with "old" energy immediately. :sarcasm: Look, the only way to get off imported oil is to get everyone out of SUV's, trucks, and get them into public transit and small cars. We'll work on the national power grid, but it does take some time to build out all that neglected infratructure.
