Global Climate Change Evidence Everywhere - Except ChimpCo Policy
"The Arctic is the world's global warming laboratory. Sadly, the test results are coming in strong. An eight-nation group reported this month on 10 significant findings — and not all of them are projections, a criticism of previous studies. Glaciers are already melting, permafrost is thawing, sea ice is shrinking.

The Arctic has been expected to take the brunt of global warming, and that theory is holding true. As snow and ice melt, the now open land and water absorb more of the sun's heat. That creates a self-reinforcing loop that accelerates the warming faster there than in other regions.

EDIT

The Arctic Climate Impact Assessment adds to the case that global warming is real, moving in tandem with the increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels. A recent report from the Pew Center on Global Climate Change finds the same patterns in its review of studies elsewhere, including additional examples of animals that already are shifting their range.

Yet the United States remains on the sidelines. "Not in this administration" was the response of White House science adviser John Marburger to a Scripps Howard reporter who asked, after the studies were released, about the potential for regulation of greenhouse-gas emissions."

2. Take a look at the weather over North America
Huge, "juicy" (moist) storm systems stretching from Mexico to Canada are colliding with early cold air and cold "clipper" storms. Right now, it's inhibiting snow fall in the upper Midwest, but in the Southwest, they're getting historically early and heavy snowfalls.

In a few weeks, that whole storm path could become one enormous snow-maker, bringing heavy snow to "The Heartland" once or twice a week until the mid-Spring warm-up and Tornado season.

The Nor'easters haven't kicked in yet, either. They seem to be late this year (though I'm not sure whether it's unusually late) due to warmer sea water in the Atlantic. When they start, their behavior will depend on the movement of cold air down off the Laurentide (roughly Eastern Ontario and most of Quebec). If there's a brisk flow of polar air, at least a few of those Nor'easters will become major East Coast blizzards like the ones in 1993 and 1996 and 2002.

My own guesstimate is that this will be a very nasty winter, with periods of equally atypically warm weather, as the atmosphere becomes increasingly unpredictable. And I wouldn't be surprised to either be snowed in all winter, or be running around in jogging shorts straight through.

3. Early snow in Finland aswell...
...normally southern Finland gets snow cover in middle December, but as I look out through my window I can see masses of snow. This is exactly what the climate change experts are promising for our country!

I mean, how frustrating must it be for the researchers to work for years, then find actual evidence of a changing climate and then NO ONE DOES ANYTHING!!! Gosh!

Atte Korhola, professor of global arctic climate change in Helsinki university, was one of the researchers involved in the latest report on arctic climate change. He said in the news that we need to take drastic measures to fight the global warming and that we have to start to prepare for the worst here in Finland. I'm afraid we have just as slow administration here as you have there at the moment...

Atte Korhola has a lecture series starting next week called "global change in the arctic climate". That's gonna be interesting!
