|
http://news.theage.com.au/world/china-coal-mine-explosion-kills-23-20080904-49s7.htmlTwenty-three people were killed in a gas explosion at a coal mine in northeast China on Thursday, a local official said.
The blast occurred at a mine in the city of Fuxin in Liaoning province, one of China's main coal producing areas, Mr Li, an official at the Fuxin local work safety bureau, told AFP.
"So far, we have got a report saying that there are 23 dead and four missing in the accident, but other details are still unknown," said Li.
Rescuers were searching for the four other workers who were trapped in the mine, the official Xinhua news agency said.

1. money trumps safety, there, same as here. |

"A deeper reason... is the lack of training and education of the 5.5 million coal miners, of which 56 per cent are migrant workers," Li said.

3. Move along, it was just a coal accident. |

Dead coal miners are mourned at a discount. Imagine if they'd fallen into a vat of nuclear waste! That would be terrible!
