We'll Hannah's here, more or less. |
|
Fairly heavy rain, some wind, but not much to speak of here in Western New Jersey.
The center of the storm is still to the South, but I don't think it'll be too bad.

|
It was getting fairly dry.

3. It's over here in Northern Virginia |
|
Right on the Potomac, and the rain's stopped, no winds, just a flood warning that will last for a few more hours.
You're getting the worst of it now. Hanna really lost most of it when she hit land.

5. Of course, one doesn't object when a hurricane loses most of it before it gets to you. |
|
I know I don't.
I grew up on Long Island.

6. I was so psyched for Hanna |
|
Laid in a stock of ice cream and cookies. Water bottles in the freezer. All sorts of canned goods at hand, with a manual can opener.
I feel cheated.

I guess when the power goes out you "have" to eat it all to prevent it from going to waste.
It doesn't hurt to have emergency supplies though.

I'm in Passaic County. My roof is leaking in 15 different places. Pots and pails all over the place. And in my kitchen a steady stream of water from the ceiling. I've emptied 5 gallons of dirty water that I've lugged down from the attic.
I'm bone tired. The landlord knows and has been looking for a roofer. The rain's never been this bad, so this is rather extraordinary.

It's a bad night to have a leaky roof.

12. I haven't been out since this afternoon. |
|
I left the library just as the rains began.
It's a good night to stay in.
The creek on my neighbor's property went dry a few weeks ago. It's flowing actively now.

13. Big storm, but mostly a rain event. |
|
It had a spiral arm that extended for 600 miles that looked like the Milky Way when it was down by Georgia.
And a crushing impact of rain, though not so bad since the NE has been so relatively dry lately so the ground could soak it up.
But the wind? But for some of the coastal areas, hardly any.

14. We got a little flooding in the downstairs apparently because of falling walnuts clogging the |
|
gutters, but it's a beautiful morning here.
I worry about the Cuban people this morning though.
