I need some help...
I am working on a proposal to create a "Renewable Energy Learning Center" for my local HS and Community College.

Here is what I had in mind for it's purpose:

Teach environmental awareness and social responsibility
Educate about the uses of renewable energy
Demonstrate the feasibility of renewable technology
Train workforce for burgeoning renewable energy sector
Offset utility costs for Educational and Civic Institutions.
Create stopping destination for enviro-tourists generating money for the local economy

I have a meeting setup with the local dist superintendent and dean of the Community college.

What I would like from you guys are any ideas for this learning center. What would make it great? What is the best way to finance?

I would also like some examples of what some communities may be doing that is similiar to this. Anyone even heard of anything like this?

1. I have one suggestion...
set up an active internship program between local colleges and renewable energy companies. Maybe you could set up internships with HS students too.

2. Community colleges here in Maine have solar and wind turbine installer certification programs
working with IBEW and local solar and wind turbine installers to graduate certified techs.

Northern Maine Community College just started a commercial-scale wind turbine tech program - lots of wind farms in the works up here and they need trained workers to install and maintain them.

That might be the best approach.
