For SB

http://www.santabarbaraaudubon.org/sbasxmasbefore.html

For other areas, see the page:
http://www.audubon.org/bird/cbc/getinvolved.html

"Christmas Bird Count (CBC) season is December 14 through January 5 each year. Your local count will occur on one day between those inclusive dates. If you have more than one local count, they will probably be conducted on different dates within the CBC season. You can pick the most convenient date, or participate in more than one count.

In November of 2008 you will be able to search on upcoming count dates. "

3. Audobon has all the info

Join Audubon's Citizen Science Team To Tell the World Why Birds Count

From December 14, 2008 through January 5, 2009, tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas will take part in an adventure that has become a family tradition among generations. Grandmothers and students, soccer moms and scientists, armed with binoculars, bird guides and checklists will head out on an annual mission – often before dawn. For over one hundred years, the desire to both make a difference and to experience the beauty of nature has driven dedicated people to leave the comfort of a warm house in the middle of winter.

For The Birds

This week I talked with Ben Crockett from Birdpost.com about his really great social networking site for birders. They are still in Beta, so this is a great time to pitch in and help them make the site even better. I happen to think that it will be quite beneficial to those in the ornithological research world. But, it will also be an easy way for people of all ages to get into birding in general.

Listen to it all here.

8. California CBCs
I keep the schedule of California CBCs on my website along with contact information for all California counts.
Check below the alphabetical list of counts for several other states lists. (this is done as all stuff on my site as a labor of love - Nature Ali is me not a commercial company) http://www.natureali.org/cbcs.htm
National Audubon Society is doing a much better job of listing the count schedule although it is up to compilers to enter the date and it is a little confusing to find the information. http://www.audubon.org/bird/cbc/index.html
When looking for a CBC, always try to check your local Audubon chapter for their schedule of events.
The Christmas Bird Count period is always between December 14 through January 5th. It is up to us compilers to choose our date and some years it is difficult to find a date that fits with your schedule and that of good birders.
