Last Minute Bush Grab On Public Lands - |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-17-08 03:26 PM by Bobbieo
The Bush Administration is making its expected last-minute assault on public lands with a potentially devastating sale of oil and gas leases on 360,000 acres of public land in Utah -- a sale currently scheduled for December 19, 2008.
IT MUST BE STOPPED!
Their plan would allow drilling adjacent to Arches and Canyonlands National Park and was completed without consultation with the National Park Service. To make matters worse, Desolation Canyon, Dinosaur National Monument and thousands of acres of wilderness quality public lands are also being targeted by the Bureau of Land Management(BLM)for oil and gas development. While we understand the Obama Adminstration plans to try to thwart or undue these leases after the fact, we must not forget that this lease sale is slated for December 19th, a month before inauguration day.
Be assured the Bush Administration will do everything it can to ensure the sales go through despite the best intentions of the Obama Administration.
This very real threat to our natural treasures is a national issue and we need your help to fight this abuse of power now!
There are several ways to take effective action:
Send a Protest letter to the BLM Utah State Office (must be mailed or faxed for receipt by Dec. 4, 2008) urging removal of parcels near or adjacent to Canyonlands and Arches National Parks and near or adjacent to lands with wilderness qualities and in residential areas.
BLM Utah State Office PO Box 45155 Salt Lake City, UT 84145-0155 FAX 801-539-4237 Call Terry Catlin, who is in charge of BLM's O&G leasing program at 801-539-4122 and express your disapproval
