Orders still coming in for wind turbines
BLOOMBERG NEWS
General Electric Co., the world's biggest maker of power generation equipment, is receiving orders for new wind turbines even as concern rises that a global recession will reduce demand.
GE today shipped its 10,000th wind turbine since buying the business from Enron Corp. six years ago. It has sold out capacity through 2010 and is getting orders for 2011, said Victor Abate, who runs GE's renewable-power units.
"We haven't had anybody cancel a project," Abate said.
Concern that some customers won't be able to complete financing hasn't stalled orders. "We're doing everything in our power to help customers," he said.
In the U.S., GE gets most of its orders within the 32 states that require utilities to buy an increasing portion of their electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar.
"That's where our turbines are landing," Abate said. "Orders continue to come in."
