Nobody's going to leave the suburbs unless their home is foreclosed upon, and they're thrown out onto the streets.
Most people would be bored out of their brains in a small town, and the cities just get worse as the economy gets bad and crime rates go up.
Economic problems will eventually go away; the American dream of living in suburbia will not.
