Purpose of position: The Director of Sustainability will be the central contact for coordination and monitoring of campus sustainability issues, and the key liaison between the university and the City of Austin, Central Texas community, and beyond.
Essential functions: Proactively advance sustainability initiatives for the university using creative and resourceful strategies acquired from experience associated with resource management, including policy implementation, energy and water conservation, greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, food systems, healthy living programs and related topics. Coordinate with the Task Force on Sustainability to promote academic and operational initiatives for sustainability. Develop communication strategies to increase awareness among both internal and external constituents regarding advancement of sustainable programs by the university. Work with faculty involved with sustainability research as appropriate. Build effective partnerships and relationships to propel the university to the forefront of recognized leadership in sustainability.
Marginal/Incidental functions: Other related functions as assigned.
Required qualifications: Bachelors degree and at least five years of relevant experience in program administration or coordination. Familiarity with implementing best practices and principles associated with sustainability and environmental conservation. Knowledge of Central Texas issues and its unique environment. Experience building consensus among diverse organizations with competing priorities. Experience advancing agenda within fiscal constraints. Ability to work both in a team and independently. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred qualifications: Master's degree and more than three years of experience related to the duties of the position. Excellent communication competencies, verbal and written including presentation and facilitation in a group setting. Highly detail oriented. Experience at UT or other high education institution. Excellent interpersonal skills.
