NASA Releases Free Desktop Climate-Modeling Software

"NASA has developed a simplified climate modeling tool called "EdGCM" that runs on a desktop PC (Windows or Mac) -- and they are giving it away as a free download. So you can run experiments and "what-ifs" on the climate model to your heart's content. They have even wrapped it up in a nice interface.


Obviously it is not as computationally-intensive as the most complex models, but they claim that they haven't dumbed it down:"



"EdGCM permits teachers and students to explore the fundamentals of climate science utilizing tools identical to those used in major climate research programs. Many simple climate experiments are possible (e.g. How does the sun warm the planet?), but, it is also possible to conduct in-depth investigations of current events, in near real-time, as they are being studied by climate scientists."
