Florida Groups Support New US $114M Renewables Fund
http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2009/02/florida-renewable-energy-groups-support-new-clean-energy-fund

Three renewable energy groups, the Florida Renewable Energy Association, Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy and the Florida Renewable Energy Producers Association last week announced their support for a clean energy fund to help solve the crisis in funding the state's renewable energy programs. The groups said that it would not only allow these programs to continue but expand to a full economic development program.

An assessment of one-half mil would be applied to all electrical consumption in the state. In tax terms, one mil is 1/1000 of a dollar or US $1.00 in tax for every $1000 of assessment. The result would be a fee of approximately US $0.58 per month for the average. The small fee on each bill would raise over $114 million per year.

<snip>

According to polls conducted by Mason-Dixon, 80% of Floridians say that they would be willing to pay up to $1 per month extra on their electric bill to support solar development programs.

The fund would be allocated to go toward the following:

50% to renewable energy installation incentives
25% for low-interest loans for consumer installations
10% for Florida manufacturing incentives for renewable energy equipment
8% for a high-profile educational campaign to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy
5% for administration
2% for monitoring and evaluation

<not much more>

2. The 0.5 mil surcharge for solar is a pittance compared to the $$$ FL charges for new nuclear plants

3. If they take the government money out of nuclear energy
it would fall flat on its face. No it would never have gotten off the floor to begin with. It has been a big lie concerning using it for our electrical production from the beginning. If it wasn't for a few assholes, and I say that with some contempt:-) here, we actually could have some good informative discussions concerning the viability of nuclear energy. I'm not saying I could be adding much but there is others here who could and would, all with the added benefit of people like me becoming more educated towards that end. In fact I think I may have pinpointed the reason right there. All I know for certain concerning nuclear energy is the people supporting it will not level with us when we start asking questions, same as it was back when I first became concerned about the waste, late '60s. Back when, due to our protests, PSO had to give up adn ultimately abandon its plans to build Black Fox Nuclear Power Plant here in my back yard. Since then, up to this point I have found no reason to give them much more than a passing, hey screw you dude, get back with me when you want to talk factual and not trash, lies are for people who don't want you to know the truth, like our last pResident and his minions, not someone who I would care to identify with btw. Today facts are whats needed to solve our very real energy problems. I keep saying this but if we would have forgone all the wasted time, effort and money thats been wasted in trying to make nuclear energy acceptable toward working on alternate energy we would be well on our way to energy independence today.
