Exxon Valdez 20th Anniversary
So apparently it is coming up on the 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and the company has still failed to make good on their promises to the people who's lives their oil spill ruined. I understand that cleaning up an oil spill takes forever, but they could have at least paid out what they promised to the fishermen who live on Prince William's Sound.

Buzzflash is doing a Three part series on Exxon, and I think there are some other good articles out there too. Does anyone know a way I could get involved and help with this cause?

1. I'll never forget the horrible sick feeling
that came over me when I first heard the news on that Good Friday morning. Exxon's actions before, during and after this disaster have been unforgivable.

I haven't read it yet, but I've been told that Riki Ott's book, Not One Drop: Betrayal and Courage In the Wake of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, is a very excellent account of the lingering effects the spill has had on Prince William Sound. You can read about it here:

Unfortunately, we may be sitting on another disaster in the making if Chevron's tanks at the base of Mt. Redoubt have not been emptied. For some inexplicable reason, we are not being informed, purportedly for "national security" reasons, which makes no sense at all. Please read "Chevron's Oil: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea." http://www.themudflats.net/2009/02/12/chevrons-oil-between-the-devil-and-the-deep-blue-sea/ I guess we're to take it on faith that everything is "okay."

I have photos of Prince William Sound here http://www.northernvisions.smugmug.com/gallery/3300313_57Psk#P-1-12 if you're interested.

2. I flew over the oil slick on the way from Anchorage to Seattle
The Sound was rainbow colored.

It was sickening.
