UK Climate Strategy Has New Focus On Adaptation, Not Prevention - BBC
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 02:15 PM by hatrack
"The British government says it is now working on a strategy to adapt to the effects of increasing climate change. Efforts have till now been focused on trying to avert the prospect through reducing emissions of the greenhouse gases scientists say are responsible.

The environment department says it is committed to publish the adaptation strategy before the end of this year. News of the strategy's existence came from the National Trust, the British heritage charity, in a press briefing.

Fiona Reynolds, director-general of the Trust, said it would make a major contributor to the strategy as one of its priorities for the year ahead. She told the BBC: "In some areas where there is an increased risk of floods, we shan't be able to build our way out, and will have to adapt.

"There will be human hardship involved, in the worst case people's homes being lost. There'll certainly be questions raised about the sustainability of some of the Trust's coastal infrastructure."

1. Why does Tony Blair Hate the World? Labour Hates the Environment
Well, here's another letdown. Blair was supposed to push * (haha) on global warming. Now Tony is apparently more interested in his place on the Carlyle board. Labour is the enemy of the environment.

No to Labour! Yes to the Liberal Party

2. This is rich
"There will be human hardship involved, in the worst case people's homes being lost. There'll certainly be questions raised about the sustainability of some of the Trust's coastal infrastructure."

No, that's just in the next ten years. Humanity will die off in 30-50 if these idiots don't stop working for corporations instead of the survival of life on earth!

3. can you blame them? they're on an island.
and they clearly can't solve the problem on their own. i doubt the brits will stop pushing for international action on this issue in the meantime. but with the way the world is going today, they should be commended for at least beginning to form some plans for some of the worst cases, while hoping most of it never actually happens.
