5. Localized vs spread out |
|
Pollution localized to one area can be remediated with a modicum of effort. What is truly frightening is the fact that Haiti and the North Pacific make the list. Environmental destruction on a wide area is much harder to fight. It will take years, even decades of continual planting to return Haiti to what it was. The North Pacific Gyre is even worse -- the trash is spread out over such a large area that there really is no way to pick it all up, it just has to decompose.

Just because we can't see the pollution and havoc humankind is wreaking on the planet, doesn't mean it isn't horrible and scary...and LETHAL to all kinds of organisms, every day.
I know it is a drop of purified water in the filthy bucket, but maybe each of us can try to fnd a way to do something different in our lives as a result of this eye opener. And yes, I think we are screwn anyway, but it doesn't mean I won't go out trying!
still...yikes :scared:

kill ourselves off. I figured we'd die a slow death by killing off the planet. Humans are stoopid.
