Whales watch us with old eyes
Hoping soon to hear no lies
Bodies carry harpoon scars
From beings who commute in cars

15 million years you see
They lived and roamed the oceans free
Communities with language skills
Working playing eating krill

One thousand years is all it took
We nearly ended their long book
So selfish was our need for oil
It lit our way so we could toil

The largest brain the greatest mass
Peaceful beasts nearby pass
Our little minds fail to grasp
Our place on earth is short on past

If whales are gone who would care
They don’t make money or profits share
So what if cruise ships run them down
Or sonar testing makes them drown

Who are we to say what’s right
We who spoil, waste and fight
We kill the earth while telling lies
