Barton optimistic on energy bill
DALLAS, April 5 (UPI) -- A key congressional leader said the high price of gasoline that people in the United States are paying this spring may play a role in passing the energy bill this year.

...

Barton said he wants environmental groups to have a role in passing the legislation.

"Is it not better to be part of the compromise, part of the process, in a positive way, then to continue to be part of the opposition that at best can obstruct, but at worst allows nothing to happen that is worthwhile?" he asked.

The energy bill would increase oil and gas production in the United States, impose mandatory electricity-transmission reliability standards to prevent blackouts and provide money for wind, solar, geothermal and hydroelectric power.
