Nuclear safety inspector gives chilling testimony about Vermont Yankee
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQODJl-WTJM

A public forum on the future of Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant, which will complete its designed lifetime in 2012.

The owners of the plant are asking to extend the license a full 20 years past its design, and to operate it at 120% its original design capacity during that time.

Nuclear safety inspector Arnie Gunderson discusses the safety issues with the plant.

This video is very scary because it is actually possible that in spite of all these saftey issues, the license of Vermont Yankee could be extended another 20 years.

Note, the fidgety guy next to Arnie is a representive from Entergy, the owners of Vermont Yankee. Watch him squirm.

1. Huh, I hadn't read about the NRC guys taking bribes...
...*digging*.

(Thanks for this, BTW, it's very enlightening so far.)

3. I'm sure you could contact Arnie and ask if there is any published info about this
perhaps there is a congressional report. he said it took a congressional inquiry headed by John Glenn to figure out what happened.

4. I posted some info on Arnie Gunderson
when he was appointed to the oversight commission last year:
He was a nuclear engineer, a nuclear industry executive, a nuclear industry whistleblower, and now
(note the "deleted sub-thread")

and two weeks later when they blocked the oversight commission from doing any oversight:
Vermont State panel barred from nuke inspection by Republicans
(note the justified reference to "swift-boating")

2. I don't trust the nuclear regulatory commission either
They've been in bed with the industry pretty much from the get go. Best I remember the commission was created to try to help to sell the nuclear power idea to the masses. To reassure us that all is well when many of us can and did see otherwise
