Eat less meat and dairy
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/dec/11/eat-less-meat-dairy-diet

Sustainable development commissioner Professor Tim Lang explains why we need to change what we eat. The first official recommendations for a diet that is good for the environment are published today. To fight climate change consumers must cut down on meat and dairy produce, reduce their intake of processed foods and curb waste. These are the three priorities identified in a report by the government's independent advisory body on sustainability, the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC), which calls for radical changes in patterns of consumption.

UNLESS

You are a big shot GW proponent, then

The delegates attending the Copenhagen Climate Conference are certainly not cutting back when it comes to perks. Delegates were conveyed to Copenhagen 140 private jet and are tooling around town in 1200 limos. The caviar is being served in heaping helpings and the champagne flows like rivers. The Copenhagen Climate Conference will spew 40,000 tons of carbon before it is done, more than the combined amounts of 60 of the smallest countries combined.

Yep. It is all about saving the planet. Not about promoting career, getting grants, and politics. Do you think I could rent Al Gore's 100 ft houseboat?

3. The Bible pretty much says people should eat plants.
Makes it pretty clear what the intention was/is.

(P.S., I'm not a vegetarian, but I do wonder about how much exactly animals are supposed to serve humans.)

5. Are we eating ad hominems as well?
This line of attack is downright idiotic and straight out of the right wing playbook. If you can't attack the policy, attack the people making the policy.

It doesn't matter what they eat or drive. What matters is the agreements and treaties that come out of the conference.

7. "It doesn't matter what they eat or drive."

So what you are saying is that Professor Tim Lang and the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) are full of shit. That "it doesn't matter what (people) eat or drive" that it has no bearing on climate change. Thank you for the clarification.

Looks like I'm getting some converts.

8. Don't look at the conference, look at the circus!
First, I didn't say anyone was "full of shit." Please don't put words in my mouth.

I said: "What matters are the agreements and treaties that come out of the conference."

There's a circus surrounding this conference that includes climate skeptics, moneyed interests, media, protesters, and many others. A lot of these people will eat meat and drive around in limos. A lot of them will raise a ruckus just to distract people from the important work going on at the conference. You seem to be focused more on the circus, including counting the number of private jets in the airport. I'd suggest you keep our eye on what's important.

I'll say it one more time - What matters are the agreements and treaties that come out of the conference. These are what will shape the future direction of the planet over the next few decades.

The circus you're so interested in goes away next week.

10. The conference itself IS a f***ing circus!
I'll say it one more time - What matters are the agreements and treaties that come out of the conference. These are what will shape the future direction of the planet over the next few decades.

I expect about the same number of binding treaties and agreements that came out of the last G20 meeting -- NONE. There will be nothing with any teeth to come out of this. Instead, we will be treated to lots of platitudes, speeches and "statements" -- but nothing that actually ensures that the problem is addressed in a meaningful way.

11. You also said
"It doesn't matter what they eat or drive."

So which is it? Does it matter or not? Or does it only matter for some people (i.e., not you or your believer friends)?

9. right. on!
I won't try to make anyone else change but the crazy waste of the meat industry is insane.. there's gotta be some serious cognitive dissonance making everyone screw their own future just so they can eat stuff that makes them fat and gives them cancer :puke:

The other day I put on my TOTALLY CUTE 20-year-old jeans :headbang: :headbang:
