The shame of Denmark - massive dolphin slaughter!
WTF? I thought these people were more civilized. This has to be stopped!

The sea is stained in red and its not because of the climate effects of nature. It’s because of the cruelty that the human beings (civilised human) kill hundreds of the famous and intelligent Calderon dolphins. This happens every year in Feroe iland in Denmark. In this slaughter the main participants are young teens. To show that they are adults and mature. Everyone is participating in one way or the other, killing or “supporting like a spectator” this cruelty. Is it necessary to mention that the dolphin calderon, like all the other species of dolphins, it’s near instinction and they get near men to play and interact. They don’t die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hocks. And at that time the dolphins produce a grim extremely compatible with the cry of a new born child. But he suffers and there’s no compassion till this sweet being slowly dies in its own blood. IT’S ! Take care of the world, it is your home!

3. "...human beings (civilised human) kill hundreds..."
I completely disagree that any people who participate in this kind of activity are "civilized."

The argument in favor of this practice would likely be the same as the one used by the Japanese and other cultures who perform such acts--it's part of our culture, and you have no right to condemn ut.

I'm tired of hear culture used as an excuse for barbaric and anachronistic practices that destroy intelligent creatures and harm the environment. Cannibalism is a cultural practice too, and it's no more or less civilized than this practice.

One day, the descendants of such people will look back in shame. I'm ashamed now.

4. Not Denmark, but Faroe Islands
Not to mitigate the horror, but the blame apparently does not belong to Denmark, according to this, and other, comments:

It is NOT Denmark. It is an autonomous state (with the exception of foreign politics, where it falls under the commonwealth of “the Kingdom of Denmark”), there is nothing Danish about it, they don’t even bother speaking our language – and you will most certainly find no sympathy for these actions with any Danes, only contempt.

5. You had me worried for a minute ...
... then I realised that you were posting crap about an
ongoing disgrace rather than a shocking new event ...

1) This happens in the Faeroe Islands, not Denmark.

2) This is a slaughter of pilot whales, not dolphins.

3) This has been attacked for years by environmentalists.

The Danish are not fond of the Faroese, partly for historical
reasons and partly because their name is always muddied by
association with the scum who still slaughter whales (although,
the one point that I will grant in their favour is that they
actually *eat* the results rather than shipping it to landfills
or turning it into pet-food). It is still appalling and should
have been banned years ago.

:grr:

(Hmmm ... re-reading the original post, I think I smell a
Japanese "they do it too!" attempt to excuse their annual slaughter
of endangered dolphins in Taiji ... but they wouldn't do *that*
would they? ...)

6. Slightly ironically, the Faroese authorities have advised not eating the pilot whale meat any more
Pilot Whale Meat On The Way Out Of Faroese Food Culture

In a KNR interview entitled “Pilot whale meat on the way out of Faroese food culture”, Pal Weihe, the Senior Faroese Health Official is quoted as saying that the Faroese women and youth have taken on the message not to eat whale meat and that they have understood that there is a level of pollution of certain Faroese foods such as pilot whale.
...
On the other hand, Weihe suggests that it will take time for older people, especially older men, to give up eating pilot whale meat.

Weihe is the Chief Medical Officer in the Faroes and has for many years researched the effects of environmental toxins on humans. The results show that toxins, among other things, raise the risk of Parkinson’s disease, high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis, as well as reduced mental capacity.

These were among the results that led the Faroese health authorities a year ago to recommend that people should refrain from eating pilot whale meat on the basis of the many toxins. The report suggests that Pal Weihe is happy that the message is getting through to people, but that it is a long process.

This seems to have had a partial effect on the slaughters; past figures for numbers of 'drives' are on Wikipedia; and a Faroese page says there were no drives in 2008, and by June 2009 there had been 2. http://www.whaling.fo/Admin/Public/Download.aspx?file=Files%2fFiler%2fwhaling%2fpilot_whale_meat_and_blubber_-_info_note_%282%29%5b1%5d.pdf

7. Just saw The Cove !!
I watched "The Cove" documentary on the dolphin slaughter in Taigi Japan. It's incredible.

And mercury poisoning from fish is well known in Japan.
