Webb may be working to repeal Clean Air Act regarding Global Warming.
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 02:53 PM by davidwparker
Dear MoveOn member,

The Senate is about to vote on a Republican sneak attack to block enforcement of the entire section of the Clean Air Act dealing with global warming. If passed, this would overturn President Obama's most important steps forward on clean energy and climate.

So far, no Senate Democrats have supported this terrible bill. But now, there are reports that Virginia Senator Jim Webb might sign on as a ringleader of these efforts to roll back the Clean Air Act.1

Senator Webb has yet to confirm or deny these reports, so he probably hasn't made a final decision. But we need to speak out now. Call Sen. Webb today and tell him to oppose efforts to roll back the Clean Air Act. Here's where to call:

Senator Jim Webb
Phone: 202-224-4024

I don't get the big deal here. And, this has zero chance in the House.

6. Unless the number of states in the union drops to 40,
in other words, 10 secede and get away with it, (which is about the only way I can picture it), 41 won't pass anything at any time.

7. Oh, I see what you meant originally by 40. What the MoveOn email was
saying was that there are no (D) supporters of the bill to remove the Global Warming provisions from the bill. Reports were starting to circulate that Webb was about to join in with them. This was the reason for the MoveOn alert.

I did call his office and DID get through.

4. Yes, both of our democratic Senators are corporatists. Now we have a right wing Governor.

Let's just say we, in Sweet Virginia, are screwed for "the duration."

5. Is he in cahoots with Lisa Murkowski?
http://www.themudflats.net/2010/01/19/thwack-in-which-the-new-york-times-strikes-lisa-murkowski-on-the-cheek-with-a-leather-glove/

Senator Lisa Murkowski’s home state of Alaska is ever so slowly melting away, courtesy of a warming planet. Yet few elected officials seem more determined than she to throw sand in the Obama administration’s efforts to do something about climate change.

As part of an agreement that allowed the Senate to get out of town before Christmas, Democratic leaders gave Ms. Murkowski and several other Republicans the chance to offer amendments to a must-pass bill lifting the debt ceiling. Voting on that bill begins this week. Although she has not showed her hand, Ms. Murkowski has been considering various proposals related to climate change — all mischievous.

Lisa's up for re-election this year, but so far no one has stepped up to oppose her; they're all too busy running for governor. I would love to see her gone.

8. Yes. That is what reports are saying and this was the reason for the MoveOn
alert.

I did call his office and state that I was against it and that I ONLY support initiatives that are green and to remove dependencies from oil.
