Surprising Canadian Warmth This Winter
Surprising Canadian Warmth This Winter
Mar 9, 2010; 2:27 PM ET

Even as much of the United States suffered bouts of punishing cold and record-shattering snowfall, nearly all of Canada basked in relative warmth during the winter of 2009-2010.

Warmth was most exceptional across the far north, where vast tracts of land usually host the nation's most bitter, harsh winter cold.

Temperatures 8 F to 12 F above normal spread over wide swathes of Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the sprawling vastness of Labrador and northern Quebec. This was also true as far south as Newfoundland and New Brunswick.

1. Yeah, the cold seems to be at lower latitudes this year
I woke up to another three inches of snow on the ground here in the high desert, where it's supposed to be in the high 50s and low 60s this time of year.

This winter has sucked here with grey skies instead of blue and what sunshine we've had was filtered through clouds as one storm after another has come through. And yes, we've got one coming in as soon as this one leaves.

2. Where I live in Ontario
we've had a lovely sunny winter. Same as we've had for years now. Made me laugh everytime someone would say they'd move to Canada but it's so cold!
