Electrofuels Headline New $106 Million Round of U.S. DOE Funding

U.S. government providing a large chunk of funding for the research and development of biofuels generated from electricity. Check it out:


The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded US$106 million in funding to 37 cleantech projects .

13 grants compiling over US$41 million were given for the research and development of Electrofuels -- biofuels generated from electricity.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, all current biofuels rely on photosynthesis, either indirectly by converting plants into fuel or directly by utilizing photosynthetic organisms such as algae. The DOE says the photosynthetic process is only 1% efficient at transforming sunlight into stored chemical energy.
