Swedish Government Gives Approval for Oskarshamn 2 Nuclear Plant Uprate
Officially, Sweden is a nuclear "phase-out" country, since 1980, but like all nuclear phase out's except Italy, the phase out was in name only.

(And now of course Italy regrets it's "tragic mistake" in phasing out nuclear power. Me too. I regret Italy's "tragic mistake." The dangerous fossil fuel wasted dumped into the atmosphere in Italy when it replaced its nuclear reactors with dangerous fossil fuel capacity is distributed randomly throughout the entire planet, and is also found in my lungs.)

I guesss Sweden is phasing out it's phase out because the Swedish Government approved an uprate of an existing nuclear reactor to produce more energy.

The Swedish government has approved OKG's plans to increase the electrical generating capacity of Unit 2 of the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant by almost 38%.The thermal power output of the boiling water reactor (BWR) will be increased from 1800 MW to 2300 MW. An increase in the thermal effect, together with efficiency gains in the turbine plant, means that the electrical output of the plant will increase from 610 MW net to 840 MW net.

OKG has been preparing for the uprate since 2007 when new electrical and control systems were installed. The turbine hall is currently being modernized and in 2011 safety systems will be upgraded and the unit can start delivering the higher power. In addition to this, a new turbine control system will be installed and consequently the control room will be redesigned.

The uprate will produce 230 MW of new capacity. As I never tire of pointing out, Denmark produces 22 Petajoules of energy from all of its wind driven rickety whirling metal in the entire country, land based and also offshore turbines, located near their offshore dangerous fossil fuel oil and gas drilling rigs. Divided by the number of seconds in a year, which is continuously and always 31,557,600 seconds per year, year after year after year.

This means the average continuous power of all wind facilities in Denmark is about 700 MWe.

This means the new capacity of the nuclear plant, from just modifying an existing building will represent 32% of all the wind capacity in Denmark.

Have a nice construction cranes in the sea kind of evening.
