LIQUIDATORS OF CHERNOBYL...BIOROBOTS

Those poor bastards...during the inital fire extinguishing after the explosion, they sent fire crews out there well knowing that the place was ridden with radiation, and they didn't even give them any protective gear. Most of the firetrucks that they came in were disabled because of radiation, and they still remain to this day, close to their old drivers bodies. Then, they use their own men as expendable tools to clean up their mess with. RIP

1. Yep, I have a friend who survived. Most of his peers didn't
Edited on Mon May-03-10 01:40 AM by Go2Peace
He has had surgery to remove brain tumors and is still alive. And some asshole on this site gave me shit for telling the story and accused me of making it up because it did not fit with his arguments that few died from Chernobyl radiation. I don't think after all these years all the truth has come out. They sent in tens of thousands of troops to contain it.

2. But yet a few posters here will tell you no one has died because of nuke plants
When a person lies in spite of the evidence to the contrary should one listen or read anything else they say or write, Hell no.
Now to go watch the videos
I can't be contaminated just by watching can I? :-)

3. I doubt that you'll find anyone who says that.
Edited on Mon May-03-10 07:18 AM by FBaggins
They say that nobody has died in the US because of nuke plants.

Of course this too is incorrect. You must certainly include fatalities related to mining even if you don't agree with any claimed TMI fatalities... but there's no question that Chernobyl is the grand-daddy of all nuclear incidents (not counting bombs).

Since there were people killed directly in Chernobyl by the explosion, there could be no claim that nobody died, even if you ignore any radiation-induced fatalities that can't be 100% associated with the event. Over 100 were taken to the hospital with acute radiation poisoning, more than 25% of them were dead within a couple months. It would be hard to pretend that their deaths had external causes.

Nice strawman. Didn't expect anything more from you.

5. You make me laugh
read some of the screeds of a certain poster who I won't name for fear of breaking rules here. You should be able to figure out who I'm referring to pretty easily.

Now go piss down someone else's leg will you, I'll have no more of it. C ya' :hi:

Nobody has every claimed 0 casualties from Chernobyl. Nobody in the real world that is.

7. Wait...don't go yet.
The link to where NNadir says, "no one has died because of nuke plants"... I'm coming up dry. I'm sure you have several you could refer me to.

I've been looking for something to pin on that ornery bastard.

9. You think so? Sombody did just that the other day.
So, apart from Chernobyl, what fatalities do we see from civilian power stations?
None.

Even if you stick to your figures (i.e., err on the side of the panic-mongers),
that "Under 5 people a year" is so damn trivial as to be a complete non-event.

Let's do even worse: don't average it over the 60 years, take it as if every
accident happened in one annus horribilis and killed 300 people around the world.

BFD.

Car accidents, train accidents, plane accidents, boat accidents, building-site
accidents, mining accidents (of all types), ... gardening accidents, accidental
poisoning, ... this is just SO far down the line to be laughable and that's not
counting deliberate action intended to harm (murder, war) or disease (malaria,
influenza, tuberculosis).

FFS, an average of 58 people EACH YEAR get killed by lightning just in the US.

Being fair, no, we can't ignore Chernobyl but even then, perspective is necessary.

5.4 million killed each year by tobacco (443,000 in US alone).
1.8 million killed by diarrhea (2001).
1.1 million killed by malaria (2001).
669,000 killed by cars (developed countries only 2001).
520,000 people murdered (global) in 2000.
499,000 suicides (developed countries only 2001).
...
41,4000 die from the flu each year in the US alone (average).
...
1,226 died in that well regulated US construction industry (2006).
291 farmers & ranchers killed accidentally in the US alone (2006).
...

Q: Why do we end up spending so much time discussing this?
A: Because some people have absolutely NO sense of perspective.

10. Did you read what you copied?
How does that support a claim that some people on DU say NOBODY HAS EVER died from nuclear plant?

Oh yeah. It doesn't.

11. You seem to have overlooked something ...
Edited on Tue May-04-10 05:20 AM by Nihil
... like the 2nd, 3rd & 4th words of the text you extracted:

"So, apart from Chernobyl, what fatalities ..."

Wanker. :eyes:

Great, apart from the fact that the patient died."

13. More like "The poster simply cut & pasted without reading" ...
... now where have we seen that before ...?

The person who cut & pasted my text (and who failed to read the
opening line) somehow thought that it provided an argument in
his favour to the thread that went:

> 2. But yet a few posters here will tell you no one has died because of nuke plants
> 4. Nobody has EVER said that on DU. EVER.
> 9. You think so? Sombody did just that the other day.

Oops. No they didn't and the quote that was extracted proved it.

Slight failure of truth-telling there ... (or perhaps just comprehension?)

15. The claim that "no one has died from nuclear power" is routinely made here
It just as routinely gets challenged, and routinely again it gets qualified to "no one has died from *civilian* nuclear power"; that too routinely gets challenged and once more routinely the line is redrawn to "no one has died from civilian nuclear *in the United States*" which once more is routinely challenged so that it routinely morphs into "no one has died from civilian nuclear power *plants* in the United States".

Don't try to con us.

17. And, as usual, ...
... after being proved wrong on the specific case under discussion,
the subject gets changed to a "general case" ...

My concern upthread was in clarifying Fledermaus's claim that the
text he quoted (mine) somehow supported the argument he was trying
to make (incorrectly) as he was missing/ignoring/whatever the first
couple of words.

As we seem to have drifted once more into the "I'll never admit I was
wrong" phase of your discussion - where everything is everyone else's
fault - feel free to have the last word.

deny and outright lie. I'll hear none of it. Nor will I be conned by them.

Well, how about the uranium miners and fuel processors.

How about the three reactor failures at Santa Susana Field Laboratory that the Atomic Energy Commission covered up for twenty years to protect the nuclear power industry.

How about numerous criticality accidents or are you going to tell us how these dead people are healthier now because of the Hormesis psuedo-science bullshit.
