New Jersey has been emerging as a national leader in solar energy production, with help from photovoltaic projects like one that was announced this week.

In announcement this week, SBS Energy Partners reported that it had reached a 15-year agreement with Seabrook Farms to install and maintain about 27,000 photovoltaic panels on 21 acres of land in Seabrook, New Jersey. Each solar panel is said to produce about 230 watts of electricity.

Also in the announcement, Wes Seabrook of Seabrook Farms noted that the company produces about 90 million pounds of frozen vegetables each year, adding that the solar array is expected to produce substantial savings for the facility.

When completed, the projected is expected to generate about 6.1 megawatts of energy, which would be sufficient to power about 785 average homes for a year. The project is also expected to save the company about $300,000 per year in electricity bills.
