I've been a member of DU for years and have seen all sorts
of posts, good, bad and in between. But, in the past few days I've noticed an amazing increase in the number of posts that are "hitting the nail right on the head" in matters of politics, business,
and philosophy.

This suggests to me that there are increasing numbers of people, all over the world, who clearly understand the human and environmental situation. And while it is true that what we might be saying here on DU is not going to have a significant effect on the global situation, the fact that increasing numbers worldwide are waking up to the fact that profound failure is likely unless
positive counter measures are taken, might be able to avert disaster.

It is time for objective thinkers to step up to the plate and wrest political control from those who are driven by greed and superstition. After two or three thousand years of terrible leadership, we
must stop the accelerating, suicidal tangent we are on, otherwise, insects and microbes might be the sole living inhabitants.

1. So far, it seems the human race is doing an incredible job of destroying themselves, and the
environment on which they depend in order to sustain themselves.

2. And do so while saying it's important for the economy
which some may notice has been destroyed as well. So there's really no reason not to do the right thing anymore is there?

4. I do believe that there is still hope for human life on Earth.
But, we won't make it if we continue allow ourselves to be enslaved by the greedy and the unenlightened.

3. Exactly. Our species is probably less that 500,000 years old.
In the animal kingdom, that makes us one of the newest species on the planet while, whales, turtles, sharks and many others have been around for over 100,000,000 years. At this rate we are likely to have the shortest stay of any species ever. There will be a new word created for us which is "shortgevity".

The solution is obvious, the human race must switch over to a more objective style of living. That is to say, we should carry out processes that are in tune with the laws of physics as they relate to survival and good quality of life for all of the planet's inhabitants as far as is practical.

5. The greedy and ruthless are by nature conformist
And do not like change.
and they now have a strangle hold on our culture and it's infrastructure.
Our only hope is for the young to take back the power they have....and that will not be easy.

10. I agree 100%. The difficult thing is to carry out processes that
will accomplish the obvious goal of unseating the current greed mongers.

Do you have any suggestions?

16. yes but they are too far out to be acceptable to most.
And that would be to build another culture right along side of the one we have...
Much like the hippies tried in the 60s ....tune in, turn on, and drop out was there solution, but that did not work.
But the drop out part was good. their idea was not to participate in the system.
And if we could make that a movement we could starve the beast.

17. I have always felt that in general, the hippies were on the right
track but that they lacked an endgame.

11. Yes. In social work there is an old saying "give a child a stick,
and he or she will find something that needs to be struck."

12. If I fully understand what a troll is, I don't believe they are contributing
much that is constructive. nt

13. Yes, it most definitely would. The human race, as a whole, might
not be as dumb as it seems to be acting. If I'm correct, then the question would be, why are they living their lives in ways that are harmful to themselves?

cheaper and easier than building things up.

Sorry, having a bad day, in pain and pessimistic.

14. That's why kids love firecrackers and things like that. Look how
much result you get just from lighting it with a match. Sorry about your day. I've had a few of those lately myself.
