"The Gulf appears to be bleeding"
Compelling video at the link. As bad as it http://www.examiner.com/x-10722-Austin-Science-Policy-Examiner~y2010m5d12-Aerial-view-of-BP-oil-spill-The-Gulf-Appears-to-be-Bleeding">appears on the surface, new information suggests it's a going to be lot worse than it looks.

Oil continues to gush from an underground energy geyser after last week's failed attempt to cap it, and the first signs of oil are now washing up on gulf shores. But this may be just the tip of the iceberg. Via Unenergy, this rare video is a chilling portent of what may be headed for the Texas and Louisiana coast: "The Gulf Appears to be Bleeding."

1. The damage from this is already irreparable
If this doesn't make us stop relying on oil, gas, coal, and other fossil fuels then NOTHING will.

2. An afterthought: the Exxon Valdez
dumped 10.8 million gallons (not barrels, gallons) of oil. Thats about 260,000 barrels. At a flow rate of 70,000 barrels per day as reported by NPR, that is an Exxon Valdez equivalent spewing into the Gulf of Mexico every 4 days. That's 5 and 1/2 Exxon Valdez spills so far, with no end in sight.
