Could the "tree farms" of the Northwest...

...be rehabbed towards an "old growth" future. One with biodiversity?

Let's say we had a wood substitute legalized (hemp).
We then focused on attempting to turn the hybrid tree farms into actual forests. Thinning and letting trees fall and decompose...etc.

This is my vision but I think I am on the wrong planet sometimes.

A recent trip through the old growth redwood groves of northern CA really drove home the tragic understanding that those big trees were everywhere just a few decades ago.
