We could save about as much oil as we get from deep water drilling by properly inflating our tires. |

1. We could eliminate all oil drilling, mining, war, and terrorism by several means. |
|
One would include phasing out the car CULTure that all of our anti-nukes keep trying to put bandaids on because they admire car CULTist Amory Lovins so much.
Another, less desirable, would be to substitute scalable fuels for those motor driven transports - and by scalable we're not talking about the ethanol toy, but rather nuclear driven DME that is the focus of many thousands of scientific research groups around the world.
A third would be charge the external costs of oil to its consumers, which would be, now that our indifferent selective attention types have managed to destroy the Gulf of Mexico via inattention and wishful thinking, enormous.
Imagine if every gasoline or 90% gasoline/10% ethanol consumer on earth were required to pay for the restoration of the Gulf?
Oil would be gone tomorrow.

2. Gosh, what natural cycle is uranium waste part of? |

CO2 is part of a natural cycle that's lasted for billions of years. We are part of that cycle. We hare made of carbon.
Bio char reduces atmospheric CO2. Biomass is CO2 negative.
Nuclear waste is part of some freak show never before seen. I like to see it survive a civil war. The idea of full scale nuclear power lasting thousands of years is silly.
