Response to the Fire on the Vermillion Oil Platform in Photos
The fire which started yesterday on Mariner Energy's Vermillion 380 oil platform, sitting 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, took over five hours to extinguish. The smoke plume rising up from the platform could be seen by NASA satellites in space.

Much closer to the scene, Greenpeace USA photographer Andy Levin was able to capture the emergency response in action.
