Australia: New Coalition Government to Aggressively Pursue Climate Bill
After the general election provided inconclusive results, the Labor party has won the support of the Greens and two independent MPs. This has allowed for the formation of a minority government. One of the major priorities of this coalition is to pass a climate bill.

With the formation of a new coalition government, it appears as though a national climate bill will be put back on the table in Australia.

Today, two independent Members of Parliament have pledged their support to the Labor party, allowing Prime Minister Julia Gillard to form a minority government. Last month's general election left neither the incumbent Labor party nor the opposition Liberal party with a majority. Today's shifting has allowed the Labor party to have a majority, by one vote.

For over a year the Labor party has tried to pass climate change legislation with a cap-and-trade mechanism for greenhouse gas emissions.
