2005 On Track To Be Scotland's Hottest Since 1914 - Scotsman
"THE recent warm weather could be set to continue as Scotland heads for one of its warmest years since 1914, according to a new report. One expert claims the country is expected to experience an average annual temperature of 8C, with July and August being "very warm". The figure would put it in the top ten hottest years since records began.

The latest records, released by WWF Scotland, based on data collected by the Met office, state that this year's winter was the 10th warmest in the last 92 years. March was the ninth warmest and January the fifth warmest. If temperatures continue to rise, Scotland's overall average temperature will be 10C by 2100.

Dr Richard Dixon, of WWF said: "Yet again, Scotland's weather is backing up the scientists' predictions that Scotland will become warmer and wetter. Climate change is a growing reality, and is the biggest threat facing Scotland. With Scotland already experiencing climate change, ministers must back the strongest possible action to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, including setting climate change targets for Scotland."

He said that cutting emissions must be a priority, and should be discussed by the Scottish Executive, especially since Scotland is hosting the G8 summit, which will be discussing how to tackle climate change. Mr Dixon added: "It is very embarrassing for Scotland to be hosting the G8 Summit without having any clear statement on what we are doing here to cut the emissions that cause climate change." Even though May was rather average, 2005 is still likely to make it into the top ten warmest years since detailed Scottish records began in 1914, according to Mr Dixon. With a warm summer predicted, he says that 2005 could even beat 2003 as the warmest year on record. Ladbrokes now says there is a 5-1 chance of temperatures in the UK exceeding 100F (37.8C) sometime this year."

2. This is not a serious problem. The most serious problem is Scotland

is the leaky pipe at the nuclear reprocessing plant at Sellafield which has killed everyone in Cumbria, located in a neighboring country. Here is a picture from the destroyed area around Cumbria:

Note that there are no people in this picture. We can take this as evidence that everyone has died (the people in the boat in the far distance are dummies put there by British Nuclear Fuels.)

It is therefore perfectly OK to destroy this lake with global climate change, so long as we can close Sellafield.

3. Was article written to support both sides of GW debate?
Why would they use a headline, that implies; Temperatures today are almost as warm as they were in 1914? Are we too lazy to put in a better description or graphic that might be able to show some real meaning. Or do we just assume the reader is too dumb to comprehend such things.

4. The article said, "since records have been kept."
This is clear. It doesn't say, "it was hotter in 1913."

The article clearly states that Scotland began keeping such records in 1914.

I agree that articles in the popular press are often misleading or just plain wrong. However I don't think that the author was trying to support the "earth is flat," "the bible explains the origins of life," or "nuclear power is too dangerous" types of arguments.

He was simply explaining a specific event (an unusually hot summer) supports a generally understood scientifically understood concept, that the earth's climate is changing because of the unrestricted use of fossil fuels.
