How to seal a plastic bag of open and half-used rice, beans, macaroni, whatever |
|
to make it airtight. Cut the top from a disposable water bottle and keep the neck and top.
Insert the top of the plastic bag through the neck, and spread the plastic open and down, then screw the top back on to seal the bag. Better than those plasric strips.

I always keep a desk dispenser of tape on my kitchen counter using a 3/4" x l000" roll.
I use it for rice, noodles in bags, tops of boxes, packages of cookies, potato chips, a half-eaten candy bar, etc., anything that needs to be kept from air. Also, I never pull open a bag of any kind of food because the bag will soon tear, but use scissors to make a strong edge, then I tape.
The tape holds up well in the freezer too. I usually grab of couple of bags from the produce/meat counter at the grocers (nice because they're longer and more flexible than the type that have a stiff closure) and freeze meats and buns in them using tape to close them without air. Reusing bread bags with tape is another way to freeze packages for the freezer.

The lower half of the bottle can be used for plants, or in capturing water from a faucet while it warms up. :)
