California: Solar Plant Advances
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar approved a big solar energy plant in the Mojave Desert on Wednesday, making it the fifth such project on public land in the West to win federal authorization. His approval authorizes the Bureau of Land Management to offer Tessera Solar the use of more than 4,600 acres for 30 years to build the Calico Solar Project. The project next faces a hearing before the California Energy Commission.

1. 30 years? 4600 acres?
Seriously?

Give me a billion bucks and I'll power the midwest using several 100 square mile plots of desert in AZ and NM.
