Climate Change Idiocy, Denial Of Reality Front-And-Center In Tea Party Politics - NYT
JASPER, Ind. — At a candidate forum here last week, Representative Baron P. Hill, a threatened Democratic incumbent in a largely conservative southern Indiana district, was endeavoring to explain his unpopular vote for the House cap-and-trade energy bill. It will create jobs in Indiana, reduce foreign oil imports and address global warming, Mr. Hill said at a debate with Todd Young, a novice Republican candidate who is supported by an array of Indiana Tea Party groups and is a climate change skeptic.

“Climate change is real, and man is causing it,” Mr. Hill said, echoing most climate scientists. “That is indisputable. And we have to do something about it.” A rain of boos showered Mr. Hill, including a hearty growl from Norman Dennison, a 50-year-old electrician and founder of the Corydon Tea Party.

“It’s a flat-out lie,” Mr. Dennison said in an interview after the debate, adding that he had based his view on the preaching of Rush Limbaugh and the teaching of Scripture. “I read my Bible,” Mr. Dennison said. “He made this earth for us to utilize.”

Skepticism and outright denial of global warming are among the articles of faith of the Tea Party movement, here in Indiana and across the country. For some, it is a matter of religious conviction; for others, it is driven by distrust of those they call the elites. And for others still, efforts to address climate change are seen as a conspiracy to impose world government and a sweeping redistribution of wealth. But all are wary of the Obama administration’s plans to regulate carbon dioxide, a ubiquitous gas, which will require the expansion of government authority into nearly every corner of the economy.

1. I always figured that to be
an electrician you had to like, um. know stuff. Or at least be smarter than navel lint. But maybe not.

2. Todd Young can move to Oregon
when he loses, and maybe Art Robinson will have a spot for him; Robinson, of the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, and chief author of the Oregon Petition - you know, those thousands of scientists, including Dr. Geri Halliwell, and Drs. Pierce and Hunnicut, who deny global warming. And bring this Dennison guy along.

Oh, and this fruitcake Robinson is running against our Peter DeFazio.

Lt. Bender: (through a megaphone) GIVE THE BAG TO BOZO, DROP THE GUN, AND PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR.
Earl Mott: Who said that?
Lt. Walters: (aside) This could very well be the stupidest person on the face of the earth. Perhaps we should shoot him.
Lt. Bender: IT'S THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Earl Mott: Really?
Lt. Bender: NO! WE'RE THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION!

> “I read my Bible,” Mr. Dennison said. “He made this earth for us to utilize.”

Didn't read it well enough did you Mr Dickhead? Cast your eyes over these ...

Lev. 25:23-24.
"The land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants. Throughout the country
that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land."

Isaiah 11: 9
"They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth
will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."

Jeremiah 12:4
"Animals and birds are dying because of the wickedness of our people,
people who say, 'God doesn't see what we are doing.'"

Jer. 2: 7
"I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce.
But you came and defiled my land and you made my inheritance detestable."

Luke 16:2,10,13
"And He called him and said to him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account
of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward. He who is faithful in a very
little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little
thing is unrighteous in much. You cannot serve both God and mammon.'"

James 5:5
"You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure;
you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter."

Mark 4:19
"...and the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires
for other things enter in and choke the word and it becomes unfruitful."

Revelation 11:18
"The time has come for rewarding your servants ... and for destroying those who
destroy the earth."

I'm not a Christian but it really pisses me off when people cloak their greed and
petty ignorance as "Doing the Lord's Will".
