Global Climate Change Action: 'Cancun Agreement' A Small Step Forward
Baby steps...

After an all-night session, climate negotiators from around the world reached a global agreement at the United Nations climate conference in Cancun, Mexico on Saturday.

The deal, hailed by Conference president Patricia Espinosa as representing a "new era of international cooperation on climate," makes progress in several areas, but still does not meet the minimum requirements climate scientists are calling for.

1. How is this a step forward?

It does nothing but set up a fund which seems to hold developing nations hostage. By that I mean it seems developing nations can only take money from the "green fund" if they agree to stop deforestation. Yet developing nation's do nothing but sign a non-binding agreement...and this is PrOgReSs?????

Christ, the US government is fully aware that at least 20 of the over 200 federally recognized tribes in Alaska will have to be relocated due to climate change in the next 2 - 10 years. About 15 due to rising oceans and stronger storms (which are chewing up their coastal villages or island where they call home). Another 5 will be relocated due to their villages sinking due to melting permafrost. A dollar amount has even been calculated by the US government (and agreed upon by Tribal organizations like the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI)), but no fund has been established nor has the government committed to covering the costs. The reality of this situation is real and impacting people right now!

So I ask again, how is this a step forward? Why are we not demonstrating in the streets over such bull shit handed to us by our government and the leaders of the world? It just seems like we just keep taking it and taking it...to be honest I can't take it anymore.
