The Simmons-Tierney Bet - one week left
I don't think you can vote anymore because the topic is archived: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=115x251383

Poll result (21 votes)
I'm a peak oiler - Simmons will win (16 votes, 76%)
I'm a cornucopian - Tierney will win (5 votes, 24%)

1. Had it not been for the economic collapse of late 2008...
Simmons would certainly have won; the depression in demand caused by economic contraction led to sharply lower market prices. (Demand fell by millions of barrels a day in total.)

See that falloff? That's what reduced demand pressure does to the maket price of a limited commodity where there's suddenly surplus capacity where there wasn't before. The fact that oil is not $200 a barrel right now doesn't mean that peak oil isn't happening.
