Mr Safina makes an interesting comparison between our reliance on fossil fuels as the basis of our economy and when slavery was the source of 'cheap' energy and the basis of our economy. We called both cheap by the artificial measure of money and therefore justified the use of these immoral sources of energy without accepting the true costs.
