New York Times reporter Andrew Revkin says it might be easy for President Obama to pass on the energy issue tomorrow: public concern around the economy is growing toward a fever pitch; his political opposition has grown stronger; and voter concern regarding climate change has decreased. Nevertheless, Revkin explains, tomorrow's address marks the perfect opportunity for Obama to stand in the midst of these barriers and institute a novel approach to transforming the energy industry.

Revkin's idea for the President's State of the Union address is to use it as a platform to announce the creation of a year-long national energy conversation.
