TS Franklin and Gert?
Jumping the gun here, but we've got two more developing Atlantic/Gulf systems.

Even as the remnants of Emily bring 10-to-20-inch rains with flooding and mudslides to northeastern Mexico, a new tropical system is rapidly organizing over the east-central Bahamas, triggering numerous showers and thunderstorms. During the early afternoon, a ship just east of the central Bahamas reported tropical storm strength winds. The upper-level environment is becoming more favorable so further development of the system is likely over the next couple of days. Because of this, an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is investigating this afternoon and this system could be Tropical Depression 6 or Tropical Storm Franklin by evening. A second tropical wave in the western Caribbean will bring heavy rain into the Yucatan and the northern countries of Central America before entering the Bay of Campeche in several days. This disturbance could easily develop as well.

1. OK, you guys are scaring me.
We head to FL in 2 wks for a 10 day vacation. Already paid for the trip, tickets, etc. to Disney and booked the campground. I have a subscription to Accuweather (love Bastardi), and am making sure we have laptop internet availability down there. Guess that's all we can do.

2. If the Bahamas storm becomes Franklin, it will probably be here and gone
by the time you leave. The Western-Caribbean is unlikely to impact anything far east as Florida, even if it does develop.

Of course, by that time, you might have to worry about Harvey or Irene... :-)

4. Franklin is projected to turn east and drift out to sea
It's a small storm and it's not well-placed to pose any threats to the mainland, and probably not even cause much trouble to shipping.

Still, it's a record-breaker. Six named storms (well) before the end of July, possibly another one or two to come in the next week. Water temperatures along the Atlantic Coast are abnormally high, 80F off Atlantic City and Cape May in New Jersey.

Good for swimming. Not so good for the climate.

3. This is a record July already.
Several years ago the World Meteorological Society warned about growing climatic instability.

Taken alone, of course, the appearance of record numbers of hurricanes in a particular month would not be ominious. It is just that there is a huge number of extraordinary meteorological events occurring at the same time, not just hurricanes, but also unprecedented droughts, unprecedented heat, snow storms in Britian in July...

Anyone who isn't frightened should be.
