FLINT (WJRT) -- (02/04/11)--Flint's waste-to-energy biogas plant -- now under construction -- may be getting even bigger before it even begins.
Construction on phase one of the the Swedish biogas plant should wrap up in the spring, and before it opens, its owners want to expand it.
The head of the local Swedish Biogas plant says he'll talk with city leaders in an effort to expand construction at the site, boosting the investment there to about $13 million.
Ground was broken in the summer, but already a new biogas digester has been built at the site. It's expected to be ready to produce biogas, which will be used to create energy, by May. In the meantime, the head of the company wants the site to expand.
"I like to say you need to be in the black to be green so it is about making money, and if we scale the plant up we can generate more revenue," said Swedish Biogas CEO Tom Guise.
