Politics Have Stymied U.S. EPA Attempts to Regulate Gas Industry Since the Reagan Era
The controversy around hydraulic fracturing continues to build in the United States. The latest storyline surrounds the battle over instituting stiffer regulations on the industry.

Over the past week the New York Times has published a series of articles highlighting both the environmental hazards that accompany accessing natural gas reserves through fracking technology, as well as the insufficient legal and regulatory framework to monitor and mitigate these dangers.

The Times' most recent report may be its most inflammatory. According to their research, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has seen its scientific recommendations concerning oil and gas drilling eliminated from its reports for nearly 30 years -- dating back to the Reagan administration.
