2. Today they "did not know" what was causing the dark colored smoke
but it's probably not steam.

4. Wow thanks for finding that!

I've done work with the Japanese and I'm used to translating their websites, they never expect that but I learn a lot!

5. Machine translations can be a "trip"
Especially when translating Japanese.

The last sentence, for example: "The southeast corner of the smoke occurs, hit the top of the spent fuel pool."

It translated "あたる" as "hit", but it actually means "corresponds to" in this case. Thus:
"The southeast corner (of the reactor building) where the smoke originated corresponds to an area above the spent fuel rods (pool)"

6. Looks like you can read some Japanese
Very cool. Did you see the smiley face in the text? Maybe just a coincidence.

I want to follow the Japanese pages, more likely to give insights. If you have
other forums or pages I'd be interested.

I'm curious about how the nuke issue is impacting daily life there. People I know
seem so relaxed, except about food, they are anxious foodies.

7. The smiley face sometimes appears
when I post something in Japanese. The computer sometimes interprets a Japanese symbol as a colon if there is a right parenthesis next to it, and voila, smiley face :)
