TEPCO urged to check leaked water in tunnels

The government's nuclear safety agency has ordered Tokyo Electric Power Company to closely monitor radiation and water levels in tunnels outside the turbine buildings for 3 damaged reactors.

The water was found leaking from the reactors and is filling tunnels linking the reactor buildings to outside the damaged Fukushima Daiichi power plant.

Radioactivity on the surface of water found just outside the turbine building of the Number 2 reactor is particularly high, at over 1,000 millisieverts per hour.

The nuclear agency told reporters on Tuesday that as far as it is aware, the tunnels are not flooded, and are not directly connected to the sea.

(Video at link.)

Among other things in the video, they’re pumping less water into reactor #2, so not as much contaminated water is produced. Naturally, as a result, the temperature has increased somewhat.

1. They mentioned debris in the No.3 tunnel, also that these tunnels are 10 cm
from overfilling .. they must pump it out but I'm guessing they'll delay on No.3 since it's 5 feet of water and who knows what is in there... highly contaminated with the spectre of MOX material mixed in.

2. More speculative scenarios about the water build up concerns

comment:
That's what I said a few days ago, and the reason why they are desperate to pump the water out of the basement (reference "The Battle of Chernobyl"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiCXb1Nhd1o )

This was the "Only" thing that saved Chernobyl from being a catastrophic world event. I know they keep saying thats it's in the turbine buildings, but I don't believe a word of it. The water is under the reactors. ! zerohedge.com
