Lessons from the Great Hanshin earthquake
You should read the bullet point summary at this link:
http://www.buzzle.com/articles/facts-about-kobe-earthquake-great-hanshin-earthquake.html

I was there during the Kobe quake and I've been watching the difference in the response to the East Japan disaster with an appreciation of what is missing. This helps explain what I've tried to point out over the noise of those who are trying to protect the fission industry's reputation.

The response to the current event is oriented completely around the need to deal with Fukushima Daiichi. It is negatively impacting every aspect of rescue and recovery efforts.

"According to the final estimates, 6,434 people were killed, while 300,000 were left homeless due to this natural disaster. Of the 6,434 people who lost their lives, 4,600 were from Kobe."

"Around 1.2 million volunteers participated in the relief work, for the first three months following the disaster."
