The official notes that they are too focused on cooling and if an earthquake or especially
a tsunami hits again at this stage a further catastrophe would result, they advocate
protecting the plant and clearing debris.

Two senior Japanese officials have warned that there is still a real risk of a catastrophic disaster at the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant .

They are kind of busy with the problems that they already have,
to worry about the problems that they might have.

2. Why do we have to imagine a potential future catastrophe?

I thought it was a threat right now. You know... with all that active fission going on, fuel still melting, and cores burning their way to the water table? :)

This isn't going to end until we can convince the aliens to help us.

Disagreeing with your assessment of no quake worries, at least du and Fukushima are good for some laughs, what's your record for correct predictions now?
Funny how you're incredulous and resort to mentioning aliens as some sort of counterpoint to you being wrong.

7. Boy... you really do have a reality problem, don't you?

I never said there were "no quake worries".

I simply found it funny that the folks who kept telling us that thousands were already as good as dead and hundreds of thousand will follow. That the cores were still melting down and there would be massive explosions when they hit the water table. That the plant was unsafe to work at and even #5 and #6 were headed for meltdowns too. That this was Chernobyl on steroids... and on and on and on...

...are now left with "Well... if there's another big disaster. THEN things could really get bad!!!"

I'm just wondering how we went from "things are still getting worse and they can't stop it" to "things could possibly get worse" without ever passing through "things have started to stabilize".

3. This is hanging over every move they make.
The earthquake created a new set of faults that they, as yet, know very little about. Just for visualization imagine preparing to do a series of major repairs on your car while having to earthquake/tsunami proof every step you take.
